harlem shake – harlem classic

Name: Harlem Classic
Location: Harlem Shake, 100 W 124th St,
New York, NY 10027 (two locations in NYC)
Protein: two smashed & grilled patties, beef blend from La Frieda
Bun: Potato
Toppings: yellow American cheese, pickles, onions, secret sauce
Added (free) Toppings: Shredded lettuce, tomato
Burger to Bun Ratio: Perfect
Accompaniments: Hand cut fries & fountain soda (These came with the Dimepiece lunch combo. Nothing comes with the burger on it’s own.)
Price: $10.10 (Dimepiece lunch combo); $7.00 (Harlem Classic burger)

Notes, etc.:
The Harlem Classic is my new favorite, fast food style burger (sorry Shake Shack!). The smashed patties are held long enough on the griddle to achieve an incredible, tasty crust while still being juicy on the inside. The cheese is sandwiched between the two beef patties while the toppings are placed between the bottom bun and bottom patty. The toasted potato bun held well to the juiciness of the burger and there was very little topping and sauce loss during consumption.

The hand cut fries were all perfectly crispy and nicely seasoned.

The Dimepiece lunch special is offered Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 4 pm and is $10.10 for a Harlem Classic or fried chicken sandwich, fries or slaw, and fountain soda or a bottle of water.

Harlem Shake is conveniently located a block away from the 125th Street subway station on the 2/3 lines. Definitely check this place out if you’re wanting a burger in the area!

by chloe – the classic burger

Name: The Classic Burger
Location: by CHLOE, 60 W 22nd St, New York, NY 10010 (multiple locations in NYC & across the country)
Protein: Tempeh-lentil-chia-walnut patty
Bun: Orwasher’s potato bun
Toppings: Pickles, red onion, lettuce, beet ketchup, and special sauce
Burger to Bun Ratio: Good, width wise. There was more bun to burger thickness-wise.
Accompaniments: Nothing (Air baked fries are $4.25 extra)
Price: $9.95

Notes, etc.:
The burger texture is almost like a black bean patty, as it was slightly soft. This texture made it slightly messy, since it would slide to one side every time I took a bite. The potato bun was light and airy, which was great since the thickness ratio of bun to burger was high. The overall flavor was good, once I had a taste of the secret sauce which brought it all together. The burger I had that day unfortunately only had it concentrated on one side of it. The beet ketchup also added a nice sweetness to it.

The air baked fries were so-so. They were crispier than normal fries, but not burnt. Some fries were great and some were soft/soggy.

I’d definitely get the burger again, but will pass on the fries.

whitmans – juicy lucy

juicy lucy
Name: Juicy Lucy
Location: Whitmans, 406 E 9th St,
New York, NY 10009 (multiple locations in NYC)
Protein: 8 oz. stuffed, beef short rib blend from La Frieda
Bun: Sesame
Toppings: Pimento cheese (stuffed inside the beef), bibb lettuce, tomatoes, spicy pickles, caramelized onions, secret sauce
Burger to Bun Ratio: Perfect
Accompaniments: Nothing (Fries are $5 extra)
Price: $12

juicy lucy x-section
Notes, etc.:
The burger is made to order and arrived medium-rare. There’s a lot of great flavors in this burger. I’ve never had a burger with pimento on it and it was quite good. The mess factor is high with the oozing cheese and juicy meat, but the bun does it job and supports you till the very end.

A side of fries is $5 extra, but they’re crispy, seasoned well, and delicious.

craft – craft burger

Name: Craft Burger
Location: Craft, 43 E 19th St, New York, NY 10003
Protein: 8 oz (my guess) beef patty
Bun: Brioche
Toppings: Smoked gouda, caramelized onions, pickles
Burger to Bun Ratio: Perfect
Accompaniments: Fries, ketchup, mustard
Price: $29/person restaurant week lunch

Notes, etc.: The Craft Burger was cooked perfectly medium-rare. The toasting of the brioche bun gave it the strength it needed to withstand the juiciness of the burger. Sweet, caramelized onions were tucked under the melted, generous amount of smoked gouda. A couple sweet pickle chips topped the gouda. The accompanying fries were plentiful and good.
I unfortunately can’t verify whether or not this burger is available on Craft’s regular lunch menu.

schnippers – the big schnipp

big schnipp
Name: The Big Schnipp
Location: Schnippers, 23 E 23rd St, New York, NY 10010 (multiple locations in NYC)
Protein: 2, 5 oz. Creekstone Farms beef patties
Bun: Brioche
Toppings: American cheese, lettuce, plum tomatoes, pickles, red onion, Schnippers sauce
Burger to Bun Ratio: Perfect
Accompaniments: Nothing (Fries are $2.99 extra)
Price: $10.99

big schnipp x-section
Notes, etc.:
The burger was cooked to my liking at medium-rare (I guess it was more on the medium side though) and was very juicy, messy, and tasty. The brioche bun was toasted and surprisingly held together throughout consumption.

At $2.99 extra, you get seasoned and satisfactory shoestring fries. I could probably go without them next time.

Schnippers serves a great fast food style burger. If you get sad from the crazy long line at Shake Shack, keep heading down 23rd to get your burger fix.
