philly foodspotting dinner at lotus farm to table – july 2011

The monthly eat up for Philly Foodspotting took us to Lotus Farm to Table in Media last Thursday. Lotus focuses on a good food made with local ingredients. Their menu changes seasonally and offers a lot of great stuff.

housemade lemonade w/ muddled strawberries, oolong tea, and rhubarb bitters

There was a large selection of teas available as well as other drinks which had tea in it. I ordered a housemade lemonade with muddled strawberries, oolong tea, and rhubarb bitters.

corn soup

For my first course, I decided to order the corn soup, consisting of pickled corn, lavender, hominy, and shiitake mushrooms. The soup was very refreshing and delicious.

roasted duck breast

My main course consisted of the roasted duck breast. This was served over dirty rice, snap peas, and parsley pistou.

white chocolate panna cotta w/ strawberries

Four different desserts were brought out with four different teas. My favorite was the white chocolate panna cotta. It was too awesome.

Here are some of the other stuff from the table:

oysters

ribeye

chocolate tart w/ caramel, sea salt, and fresh mint

farmer's market peach, crumble tart, cardamom ice cream

All the food I got to try was fantastic. Definitely adding this to my list of go-to places in Media.

house (again!)

It’s been a little over a year since I’ve been to House. Luckily, I was able to stop by for a late lunch last week because a bridge was nearby. I was totally craving soup and grilled cheese and House was the perfect choice!

I ordered a half & half – soup and sandwich. The soup was a mushroom soup topped with gorgonzola and truffle oil. My sandwich was the stack which comes with brie, cheddar, caramelized onions, and bacon. I had gorgonzola instead of the brie…just couldn’t help it.

Ahh, it was another delicious lunch. Seriously, I don’t want to overhype this place, but I love the stuff here. The food is great and the staff are friendly too – they remembered me from a year ago! Hopefully there will be other bridges in the area and I’ll be around during the lunch hour…

cooking: grilled cheese & tomato soup

I had some field inspection work today, so I was out in the cold for quite a bit. On the way home, I thought of what to make for dinner and soup turned out to be the perfect thing to warm me up! Some quick searching on Chow led me to this tomato soup recipe. I made that along with a grilled cheese. For the grilled cheese, I used sharp white cheddar and swiss. While making a quick grocery run, I came across this Jalapeno Cheddar Loaf from La Brea Bakery, which I instantly picked up.

To date, this batch of grilled cheese and tomato soup could very well be the best I’ve ever made…

P.S. I’ve gotta get more of that bread, it was delish. Also, I finally got to use that panini press that’s been sitting around collecting dust!
